What I am about to share is a true story and I’m opting to leave names and certain details out, out of respect. Despite this, I’m hoping these Mommies see this because I think they’re wonderful!

So here goes: I met this really beautiful Mom who just moved to the area from Brooklyn. As I was getting to know more about her and her family; what her and her husband do for a living, etc. I thought, “Wow! What a cool company to work for! Dopeness all the way through!”

Well, then it was my turn to share about my family and what we do, etc. I’ve learned that when it comes to explaining what my husband does, if I just say something along the lines of “He’s a numbers guy who deals with stocks; he says what funds needs to go where, and he works for a Japanese bank” people have general idea of what he does, which is just about the same idea I have of what he does. It’s how he’s explained it to me.

Although, I know it’s much more complicated than that. I explained how I am just getting around to working again with my own startup business in freelance videography and a family/home/wellness product review business. Both of which allow me to work from home. Thus, allowing me to be a stay at home Mom.

Apparently, this was impressive. Lol. Naturally, this was a moment I appreciated because it gave me a second to reflect and even feel a little praise that I hadn’t had until this moment. Starting 2 business on my own with a baby in a new town where we knew nobody, took me just about 2 years of wrecking my brain to figure out. It’s been challenging to say the least, and I feel like I have so much to do with virtually no time to do it. But, I just keep fine tuning and even though I’m getting there in baby steps . . . I’m getting there.

Once, we started mingling with another Mom and we began to share with her about ourselves, she eagerly asked me to share what I do and I immediately reacted by sort of brushing it off and dismissing the opportunity to share about my work again. To me, it’s not a big deal and nothing worth bragging about. To her it was.

She even made it a point to tell me, “You started YOUR OWN BUSINESS!”, and then said something along the lines of insinuating I should be proud. Those words, and her body language have stayed imprinted in my mind since that night and they will continue to keep me focused on my end goals. I imagine, if she read this she might be wondering why I’m shouting her out over our first and only conversation, but I wanted to take the opportunity to share ONE of the ways I was able to start ONE aspect of my businesses.

I remember telling her, “ANYONE CAN DO IT” and I wasn’t kidding.
