20 Min Of Quiet Time

As a parent, it’s a killer to wake up before you really have to when you’ve already experienced sleep deprivation like never before.

But, it’s made a difference.

And, I’m not big on self help related books.

But, I do make exceptions…

I’ve Gained More Than I’ve Lost…

This could be said about my weight since Covid too, I suppose. However, I’m referring to my good energy and focus. Ha!

As a stay at home mum, it still feels a bit silly to me to think I should toss the privilege of being able to sleep through the night until 8am now so as to put things I’ve read in a book to the test. But, I did it anyway. The book is titled, Three Simple Steps: A Map to Success in Business and Life. I love how this book made it’s way into my life right before Covid-19 times. It was sort of random how it happened, but I’m so thankful that one of my oldest friends decided to share this book with me. The timing couldn’t have been better.

In this read, the author, Trevor G. Blake talks about the power of words and how even though we’re not always aware, every single word that we hear or say materializes images in our minds, that then transpose themselves onto our physical world. He talks about how important it is to be mindful of this and basically step away from conversations that use negative words and to catch ourselves saying things that are not beneficial to our success or the success of others around us. It’s so hard to dodge all these words that come about during times like these, but I can tell that keeping our distance has prevented unnecessary obstacles, when we already have plenty we can’t avoid. It doesn’t seem like rocket science, but once I actually put this practice into play it really put into perspective the simple things we could do to help the quality of our lives during these times. He also goes over preventing ancestral patterns we don’t want to recreate in our own lives.

For me, the main takeaway from Three Simple Steps, was the importance of creating a quiet space in our home or wherever we are and take 20 minutes of every morning to sit awake in silence. He encourages us to wake up before everyone else and to sit in this space alone and just focus on breathing and thinking of being connected with the earth. To be completely honest, I’ve skipped a couple times of doing this. Whether it be my guilty conscious at play or simply that it does work…I have noticed the difference on how my day turns out when I do wake up before everyone else to sit by myself for 20 minutes or so.

I have my favorite “vintage find” wingback chair situated in the dining room we barely get to use, and I stare out the window where I can see the sunrise and tall trees on a snowcapped hill. I envision being in cozy layers and sitting on a wooden deck with a sort of glass cabin house behind me where I can feel a fireplace going. I hear the wood burning and the birds chirping in the trees. I feel myself levitating and these vines coming up from the ground to gently wrap around me so that I stay connected to the earth. Technically, I think you’re not supposed to think of anything at all outside of breathing, but I’m working on that.

Anyway, I’ve noticed taking those 20 minutes for myself has enabled me to keep my calm while my child is running at a 100 miles per hour and I’m still working on waking up. I’m also able to help my husband redirect his frustrations from work. I am able to think more clearly to solve scheduling conflicts that occur when owning your own business while being a stay at home mom. In turn we all have a better day. This ladies and gentlemen has allowed me to have the right mindset to create loads more content for our family business.

Listen, point blank…I must’ve missed the memo that says taking 20 minutes for myself to sit in silence and just breathe every morning is “Mommy Self Care 101”. In case, you might’ve missed it too or needed to be reminded…here I am telling you to do so. This is also my way of paying it forward in suggesting you read, Three Simple Steps. Let me also state that you don’t have to be a Mom to find this book helpful…after all it is referenced as a map to success in business and life. Personally, I haven’t fully put the last step into play yet. But, I’m just super content that I found a way to make the information learned work for #momlife needs.
